Bucks County Biscotti Green Initiative
While biscotti is our passion and livelihood, stewardship of our environment with a focus on the reduction of our carbon footprint take the highest priority at Bucks County Biscotti.
From the ground up, we built our bakery with a specific focus on alternative energy and designed all our packaging to be biodegradable, recyclable, and reusable.
Everyday we’re constantly working towards sustainability in the production and distribution of our biscotti.
Solar Panels
In 2008 we installed a 38-panel solar array on the roof of our barn to power our bakery using 100% renewable energy. We're incredibly proud that as of June 2020, we've saved 6,040 kWh. That is the equivalent of:
- 10,597 miles driven by the average passenger vehicle
- 4,706 pounds of burned coal
- Fully charging 544,629 iPhones
- 1.5 tons of waste recycled
- Carbon sequestered by 5.6 acres of US forrest
Biodegradable shipping peanuts
All the packing peanuts used in our biscotti shipment are 100% biodegradable made from natural, nontoxic corn starch sources. They dissolve in water and can be thrown into compost piles after a single use. In addition, biodegradable foam peanuts do not have an electrostatic charge, meaning they will not stick to your clothes.
Recyclable and Reusable Materials
Our shipping and packing boxes are all made from un-bleached, un-dyed, recyclable and reusable paper. Say that 5 times fast. This prevents the use of chemicals like chlorine that can hard on the environment, and decreases the amount of trash production for each shipment. A few examples of things we've seen stored in the boxes long after the biscotti are gone include legos, spare reading glasses, and injured baby birds being nursed back to health.
Limited Waste With A Tasty Bonus
Our biscotti honor stand is the perfect opportunity to please the local community with a tasty deal while reducing the quantity of perfectly good cookies that did not quite make retail standards. These 'noses, butts and breakers' that would have been otherwise discarded are bagged into ~1 Lb. bundles and sold for $5 at our Local Honor Stand open 24/7/365. You can click here to learn more.
